Knowing summer tends to be a dry time for donations, the Essex Region Goodfellows provided the four local food banks it supports each with an additional $5,000 donation.

Annually, the Essex Region Goodfellows hosts the Newspaper and Corporate Donation Campaigns leading up to the holiday season. Thanks to the unwavering generosity of the community – and support from local volunteers and Firefighters – the Essex Region Goodfellows’ 2025 Newspaper and Corporate Donation Campaigns were able to raise $15,000 for each of the Essex Area Food Bank, the Essex Salvation Army, and the St. Vincent de Paul Chapters of Harrow and McGregor. Those funds were presented leading up to the holiday season.

The summer financial boost is funding the Essex Region Goodfellows mostly raised through the Corporate Donation campaign, and presented at a time when donations to the local food banks are a little more scarce.

Richard Meloche, Treasurer of the Essex Regional Goodfellows, was pleased to be able to forward the additional financial donation over to the four food banks with the local service club.

“We are fortunate we live in an area where people support the food banks,” Meloche said. “We hope to do this process for many years to come.”

Providing the financial assistance to the food banks during a time of year when it typically receives fewer donations, but demand continues, is a great thing, Meloche commented. “It is very endearing to hear how the funding came in at a great time.”

Receiving that kind of feedback instills within him a sense of knowing why he remains involved and motivates him to continue to raise funds with the Essex Region Goodfellows to support families in need.
