Essex welcomes youth to enjoy ‘Bites with the Bunny’ before Easter

by Sylene Argent, Local Journalism Initiative

While many families may look forward to Sunday as a morning to sleep in, around 50 individuals instead headed down to the Shaheen Community Room at the Essex Center Sports Complex to enjoy the special “Bites with the Bunny” event ahead of Easter weekend.

Assistant Manager of Programs, Recreation, and Culture, Katie Bortolotto, noted the event offered a pancake breakfast, crafts for the youth, and an impromptu dance party, which allowed the families a chance to hop around with the Easter Bunny.

She was happy with the turnout, noting all the children seemed to enjoy the opportunity to celebrate Easter a little early. The Town of Essex hosted the event and was happy to partner with A&W for the pancakes, which Bortolotto noted helps support the community.

The Bites with the Bunny event was a fun way for the Town of Essex to offer families a way to celebrate the Easter season and provide an opportunity for local kids to meet the bunny, she added.

Hosting special programs, like the Bites with the Bunny event, helps to bring attention to the Town of Essex's recreational programming.

Bortolotto noted the Town's Parks and Recreation Department is currently preparing to open up registration for the spring Day Camp session on April 1st and for the summer day camp registration on May 1.

Those interested can log on to essexconnect.ca to learn more.

In addition, the Town is hiring Day Camp staff, she noted. Those interested to check out essex.ca to see more information.
