From seasoned equestrians to curious kids meeting their first pony, Lazee G Ranch’s annual Horse Day offered something for everyone, while celebrating the joy of horses and farm life with hands-on experiences for all ages.
On Sunday, Lazee G Ranch opened the barn doors and had the saddles ready to ride as part of the annual “Horse Day” at the Maidstone location. The event provides the public with a chance to check out the ranch's facilities, learn about the programming offered at the farm, and interact with the animals.
“It’s such a great experience for everyone. We’ve got a couple of new drill teams and right now, we’ve got a lot of baby animals around the farm, which people can see up close,” Brenda Gagnon, Owner and Operator of Lazee G Ranch, said. “Events like this take a lot and we probably had over 30 volunteers. But everyone is excited, the girls really look forward to having the public come out, showcase their skills, and talk horses.”
The open house style event allowed participants to move around the ranch at their own pace, interacting with different volunteers and stations. While the weather may have halted and interfered with some of the outside portions of the event, Gagnon and the volunteers around the ranch were prepared and had spread activities, stations, and traffic throughout the buildings around the ranch.
As a part of the event, Lazee G Ranch offered riding demonstrations from members of its riding programs, while providing children an opportunity to ride ponies and horses around the ring. Lazee G Ranch also collected non-perishable food items to be donated to a local mission.
“We get a lot of calls around this time, and a lot of people are excited to come out to the farm. It’s also great to be able to support those in need,” Gagnon said. “For the girls, it's one of their first times to perform this year, while it's not in the big ring, it is still a great learning experience. We hope to have other shows this year, including our big Shodeo in July. We always look forward to having the public out and seeing what we have to offer.”
Gagnon noted all of Lazee G’s events or programs can be found on its social media page. She is thankful for all who attended and supports the ranch and looks forward to seeing everyone back soon.
