Essex Gospel Community Church hosts 23rd Annual Easter Egg Hun
by Garrett Fodor
Brightly coloured eggs dotted the grass as children’s laughter filled the air on Saturday morning, when Essex Gospel Community Church hosted its 23rd annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Essex Soccer Fields. The long-running spring tradition drew more than 1,300 attendees from across the community.
The event has grown steadily over the years, offering families a chance to gather, connect, and celebrate the Easter season together. Children were divided into four age groups and spread out across four fields, racing with baskets and bags to collect thousands of eggs scattered across the grass.
“We are extremely blessed to be able to offer a fun, free family event to celebrate the Easter season,” Pastor Kati Lorantfy said. “We have been praying for this, and the weather really shone. Our church cares deeply about the community, about connecting and giving back.”
Before the hunt began, families had time to socialize and take photos with the Easter Bunny, adding to the festive atmosphere.
More than 25,000 eggs were distributed across the fields, with children eagerly waiting for the signal to begin. While most eggs were filled with chocolate, some contained slips of paper, redeemable for special prize packs tailored to different age groups. Two children also won brand-new bicycles as part of the day’s giveaways.
The event emphasized not only fun, but also community connection. Children enjoyed a free barbecue, and families were encouraged to spend time together throughout the morning.
“Having the opportunity to connect with families and the community is my favourite part of the festivities,” Lorantfy said. “It’s wonderful to hear people’s stories and bring the community together. Our church family looks forward to serving the community through this event every year.”
More than 70 volunteers contributed to organizing and running the event, with additional support from community partners and local businesses that donated prizes, including gift cards.
Lorantfy said she is grateful for the continued support and growing enthusiasm surrounding the annual tradition.
“It’s amazing to see how much the community looks forward to this event,” she said. “There’s a real sense of connection and pride that continues to grow each year.”
