From dazzling displays to tight turns and synchronized riding, all kinds of talent were on display at Lazee G Ranch’s annual Shodeo, this time with a medieval twist.
This past weekend, Lazee G Ranch opened its doors and welcomed the public to the Maidstone ranch for its annual “Shodeo” event. The show featured members of the ranch’s Silver Stars Drill Team, as they showcase their riding skills and talents.
The show featured synchronized riding displays synced to music, focusing on movement, speed, spacing, and more. Each year features a theme, with riders and horses dressed for the part. This year’s theme revolved around the medieval era, while each year’s lineup featured different displays.
“We’ve been here for over 35-years, and this tradition goes back about 25-years, and it is always great and something our riders look forward to,” Brenda Gagnon, Owner and Operator of Lazee G Ranch, said. “For so many of our riders, it is their first time getting to perform in front of a crowd, and it's special to them, having so many friends and family and even strangers coming out to watch the performances.”
As a part of the performances, Lazee G Ranch had the Border City Barkers Agility Team on display. They showcase the intelligence and training of their beloved canines as they competed in games, agility courses, and other maneuvers for the crowd's enjoyment. And aside from that, there were other displays on hand too, including singing, dancing, and gymnastics.
“We want to be able to showcase all of the unique skillsets our riders have, not just on the horses,” Gagnon said. “We want to intertwine them, give them a platform, and help to make memories. That's what it is all about, the memories and the smiling faces.”
In total, Gagnon notes that more than 30 participants had a hand in the Shodeo performances on Saturday and Sunday. As a part of the festivities, families were able to not only watch some of the animals on the ranch, but also get up close with others through pony rides. They were also able to see the facilities and other sights and sounds the ranch has to offer.
While the ranch is in the midst of its summer camp programs and other activities, Gagnon is excited as they are in the works for planning more programs and opportunities to invite the public to the ranch again soon. She is thankful for all who attended and supported the riders and hopes to see everyone again soon.
